Highly increased CSF tau protein and decreased â-amyloid (1–42) in sporadic CJD: a discrimination from Alzheimer’s disease?
نویسندگان
چکیده
The aim was to quantify tau protein and â-amyloid (Aâ42) in the CSF of patients with sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD), Alzheimer’s disease (AD), and controls. Double sandwich enzyme linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs) were used for measurments. Tau was increased 58-fold in CJD and 3.5-fold in AD compared with controls, whereas Aâ42 was decreased 0.5-fold in both CJD and AD. A cut oV level for tau protein at 2131 pg/ml successfully discriminated CJD from AD (100% specificity and 93% sensitivity). Tau protein concentration in CSF is probably an additional useful marker in diVerentiating CJD from AD. (J Neurol Neurosurg Psychiatry 2001;71:401–403)

Highly increased CSF tau protein and decreased beta-amyloid (1-42) in sporadic CJD: a discrimination from Alzheimer's disease?
The aim was to quantify tau protein and beta-amyloid (Abeta42) in the CSF of patients with sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD), Alzheimer's disease (AD), and controls. Double sandwich enzyme linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs) were used for measurements. Tau was increased 58-fold in CJD and 3.5-fold in AD compared with controls, whereas Abeta42 was decreased 0.5-fold in both CJD and AD. A...
متن کاملDiagnostic Accuracy of a Combined Analysis of Cerebrospinal Fluid t-PrP, t-tau, p-tau, and Aβ42 in the Differential Diagnosis of Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease from Alzheimer’s Disease with Emphasis on Atypical Disease Variants
According to recent studies, the determination of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) total tau (t-tau)/phosphorylated tau (p-tau) ratio and total prion protein (t-PrP) levels significantly improves the accuracy of the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD) in atypical cases with clinical or laboratory features mimicking Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD). However, this has neither been validated nor tested ...
متن کاملUse of 14-3-3 and other brain-specific proteins in CSF in the diagnosis of variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.
OBJECTIVES The detection of the protein 14-3-3 in the CSF has been shown to be a reliable and sensitive marker for sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD). Other brain-specific proteins such as neuron specific enolase (NSE), S-100b, and tau protein have also been reported to be increased in the CSF of patients with sporadic CJD. In 1996 a variant of CJD (vCJD) was described which is likely to ...
متن کاملThe most valuable biomarkers of Alzheimer\'s disease: a review article
Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most popular type of dementia in elderly and is described by a progressive loss of cognitive capacity and severe neurodegeneration which typically begins with memory deficits. The major biomarkers of AD include total tau, phosphorylated-tau and 42 amino acid isoform of amyloid beta that reflect neurodegeneration and indicate the pathophysiological processes in AD...
متن کاملZataria multiflora could improve hippocampal tau protein and TNFα levels and cognitive behavior defects in a rat model of Alzheimer's disease
Objective: Zataria multiflora (ZM) is a plant with ethnopharmacological value which was recently tested to reduce symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). The aim of the present study was to determine the effect of ZM essential oil on spatial cognitive and noncognitive behavior, as well as hippocampal tau protein and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα) concentrations in ra...
